If your creditor has a "garnishment"; that is they went to court and obtained a judgement against you, they can seize any money that you have in your bank account.  They can also seize other personal property as well and can place a lien on your home if you have one.  At this point you should close your account and use cash/money orders only.

If your creditor doesn't yet have a judgement then they cannot touch any such account - for now.  However, if you think that they will be able to get one, you should remove your money
