Should I be eligible for unemployment if I quit my job due to intimidation/harassment?

Question Details:

I felt like I had to quit my job because the district manager got in my purse and publicly printed my phone #; have proof on the store's camera. I turned him in to the owners only for them to take up for him. I no longer was comfortable working for him under those circumstances.

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  You are eligible for unemployment benefits generally, when you are let go or discharged where you were not insubordinate.  If you left becasue you did not feel comfortable, the state is not likely going to permit you to collect benefits as you left voluntarily.  While it makes sense why you decided to quit, the state may not deem this a sufficient reason.  However, i would file the claim anyway and argue that the employer made your work environment hostile and you feel you were constructively discharged.
