Question Details: my wife and I separated 1 and 1/2 years ago. My auto insurance Co. noticed she changed her address. They upped my rate and I paid it. Now they sent me a cancel notice which states "Due to named insureds no longer reside in the same household and are not resident spouses" We both live in Fl. She obtained her own insurance....from the same Co. and she wasn't cancelled??
It appears your insurance company thinks you were trying to get away with something; to get away with including a non-resident spouse as a named insured. Insurance companies will typically only cover members of the same household on one policy. If your wife purchased a separate policy in her own name with her new address, she would not have been cancelled because she's not "lying" to the insurance company. You need to contact them and find out the reason they cancelled you and reapply without your wife on the policy.
