Wills, Trusts, Probate Law Answers

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.   Credit card liability is governed by contract law.  if you are not a party to the credit card agreement, you cannot be liable for your mom's debts as a mater of law.  However, your mom's property (i.e. real estate) is subject to being taken to satisfy the debt as well as her bank accounts.  I suggest that you hire a lawyer if your mom is sued to try to negotiate the debt.  most banks will work with your mom to pay off the debt over time to avoid court action.
