What to do if I was pulled over in my in-laws vehicle which did not have insurance?
Question Details: I was told by in-laws that the car had insurance. Pulled over for headlight out and insurance has expired apparently. Was wondering how I can fight the suspension and fine as well as whatever incurred points on my license? I have 2 small children (2 and 3) and my wife does not have her license; we are currently out of state visiting in-laws. A suspension would prohibit being able to go home or drive in my home state. What can I do?
Driving a vehicle without insurance in most states is a misdemeanor offense. Usually upon an admission of responsibility, the court will place you on a delayed sentence to allow you to get insurance in which the criminal charges may be dismissed. One defense you may have is that the car is not registered to you that you had no responsibility to provide insurance on the vehicle. You will want to retain the services of a criminal defense attorney in your area to help you successfully resolve this matter.
