A pendente lite (PL) is used to determine if the economically disadvantaged spouse is entitled to relief (alimony, child support, use & possession of the marital home) while the litigation to determine the divorce/custody issue is pending. Both sides present evidence regarding their financial position and the party asking for the relief has the burden of proving why it is needed.
