Paying credit card bills if there is no money in an estate

Question Details:

My mother passed away after being out of work for 3 years due to an injury, consequently she had several large credit card bills pile up. As the PR for her estate, I paid all of the bills until the little money she had left ran out. There is still 1 credit card bill. The house is left to my sister and I with a life estate to my step-father. It also has a mortgage that he is paying. She had no other assets. What happens to the credit card bill? Am I, as PR of the estate, responsible for it?

You would not be liable for it if it was not your credit card. As far as what would happen to it, I would suggest speaking with the Probate Court, as they would have access to the file and would have all of the necessary information to advise you.
