I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  I you fail to pay a loan you can be sued from a civil standpoint and your assets (home, paycheck, money in bank account) can be taken to satisfy the debt.  If you are required to pay money arising out of a criminal matter, you may subject yourself to jail time for not complying with a court order.  I would need to know more facts here to provide you with a more definitive answer.
