What am I entitled to for physical injuries resulting from a car crash?

Question Details:

I was the passenger in a car that was Hit by another vehicle operated by a small business. I received a broken elbow and crushed tendon in my wrist. My recovery time was five months and my medical bills were about $2500. The doctor says my wrist has a 25% chance of relapsing in the future and may require more treatment. I was laid off before the accident and not employed for the duration of my treatment. I was in too much pain to work during that time. I need to know what my case should be valued at in order to determine whether my lawyer is getting me what is fair.

If you really want a second opinion that's worth listening to, you need to talk to another lawyer in your area, and you'll need to let him review at least part of your file.  Your injury -- any given injury -- will usually have a different settlement value in different courthouses, even within your state, which is why you should see someone local.

Most cases like yours are handled on a contingent fee basis -- your lawyer's fee will be a percentage of what your lawyer is getting for you.  It's usually a pretty good incentive for your lawyer to get you what you deserve.
