Must I travel out-of-state to be deposed?

Question Details:

I am a material witness in a civil suit in NJ but live over 1,000 miles away. I'm neither plaintiff nor defendant. Does NJ law require me to be deposed in the state and, if so, is there a legal obligation for me to travel that distance? If not, are there provisions to allow for a deposition to be conducted via phone or by an attorney close to my home or business?

Why are you asking this of California attorneys?  We cannot advise  you on NJ long-arm statutes.
