What are my rights if a company opened an actual credit card in my name when they only had consent to check my credit for possible qualification for financing?

Question Details:

Consent was only given to check credit. Credit card was taken with a bank, not even opened directly with the company. No contract was ever signed for the work and no consent to open a line of credit. Contacted the employee and he stated to "cut it up" if I didn't want the card. I do not think this is legal for them to do, and now I worry about the abuse of our information and this account.

If you only gave consent to check credit, it was wrong to open an account.  I am unsure of your damages, if any.  You may wish to check your credit score.  I would write the company a letter requesting that they close the account as well as cuting up the card.
