Non - Payment from Employer

Question Details: I was hired as an Independent Contractor for a company. The company went out of business and never paid me. It has been over 5 months and I have been told several times that I would be paid but have not received any money. What is the best way to handle this? Help please.

You need to hire a lawyer and file suit for your money, and I wouldn't wait any longer to do this.  It's possible that the company may have gone into bankruptcy, in which case you'll have to file your claim and wait to see if there's any money.  It's almost certain that there are other people and companies who are also owed money by the former business, and who gets paid and who doesn't can sometimes depend on who can get to court and get a judgment faster.
