How long can I file for assault charges?

My best friend and I live together in a apartment and share the lease. She got violent when she drank and would come after me. I took pictures of the injury and some people saw her behavior towards me. I felt unsafe living there so I moved out and did not file a police report because I would feel bad she was my best friend and I was scared of what she would do. Now I am still paying rent and not living there because I am afraid of her, and I am wondering if I file a police report if I would still have to pay rent because I fear my safety? Is it too late to file charges; it happened on 2 months ago?
if you signed the lease, you remain responsible for the rent. The lease is a contract between you and the landlord. your problems with your roommate are between you and the roommate. they don't concern the landlord.
