My landlord's property is being foreclosed.
Question Details:
Do we need to file a claim at his bankruptcy hearing to be entitled to our relocation assistance money?
I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law. A tenant is not a creditor of the landlord's bankrupcty estate unless the you had a written lease and the term was not up and you have been forced to leave the property before the lease ended or if the landlord has taken your security deposit and failed to return it to you. If you are a month to month tenant, then the new owner of the house is going to evict you and and you mayu seek your security deposit from the landlord to the extent that you gave a deposit that has not been returned. i suggest that you meet with a lawyer to determine whether and to what extent that you can go after the landlord for money damages. most lawyers will meet with you intially for free.

Are you a lawyer?
