Question Details:
My landlord installed CCTV security in my building and I think that it is great but I do not know who has access to the video feeds and if my privacy is being protected. What should I do? Cameras are supposed to be used to protect us but I am afraid the CCTV system in my building can be access by anyone in the world thus everyone knows when I come and go and I don't feel safe.
Unless there is someone in particular that you think is stalking you, this probably isn't anything to worry about. And, legally, there really isn't anything you can do about the cameras, even if they are linked to the internet, because they are only covering public areas, not the inside of your apartment; someone who wanted to know when you come and go could get the same information by sitting in a parked car across the street.
If you are being stalked, please call the police! And I'd alert the landlord, because those security cameras just might get evidence that will help stop the stalker.
