Your husband has a right to continue his coverage through COBRA--he would have to pay the full monthly cost, including the portion that had been paid by the company. However, the company does not itself have to continue paying for or providing his insurance. Your husband should have been given COBRA info by HR at the company; if he was not, he should demand it, and also might want to call the insurer directly to find out what he needs to do to continue the insurance.
