My husband's lawyer will not discuss his case with me and he has given them written permissionto do so, is there any recourse?

Question Details:

My husband is currently in jail, he has retained a lawyer and for 3 weeks he has not come for any visits. so my husband wrote a letter to the lawyer and asked him to divulge the information regarding his case to me. However they are keeping me at bay and reuse to give any info regarding his case. We have already paid him a hefty sum and would like some respect. Is there any recourse in persuading them to talk to us soon?

Lawyers take confidentiality very seriously.  In this case the lawyer represents your husband and is under a client attorney privilege that generally states that he may not under any circumstances talk to you about communications he has with your husband as well as details about the case.  While your husband wrote a letter to the lawyer, the lawyer may be concerned tha the signature is not his or whatever.  I suggest that you set up a meeting at the jail with your husband and the lawyer to execute an authorization to discuss the case to put the lawyer at ease.  if the lawyer refuses to meet, i suggest that you look for a new lawyer and ask the former lawyer to refund a portion of your money.  Lawyers are supposed to help their clients.
