Divorce, Marriage, Alimony Law Answers

Generally speaking, the most significant difference between an annulment and a divorce is that in an annulment the marriage is treated for legal purposes as though it never took place. It's like stepping back in time and deciding not to get married in the first place. You wouldn't be entitled to alimony in the case of an annulment, but then it is harder to get an annulment when there are child custody and property issues that need to be resolved. Annulments are more common in cases where the spouses have not been married very long, there are no children involved, there are no disputes over the distribution of property, and especially if there was some material fact that was not disclosed that would have affected the decision to get married in the first place. If you want alimony, divorce may be your only option.
