No, filing bankruptcy does not cause people to lose their house.

Of course, failing to pay the mortgage payments like you are supposed to can lead to foreclosure and losing the house.  But when that happens, you can usually save it with a Chapter 13.

In a Chapter 7, your house usually is not effected at all.
