If my ex put me on the title to a house that her parents bought her prior to our meeting, does that mean she has to buy me out?
Question Details:
My ex left me for someone else. Her parents paid cash for a house for her before we met. After we lived together for a year she had me put my name on the title of the house to show her commitment to us. If she wants me to leave, does she have to buy me out.
Whether or not your "ex" wants you to leave or not the structure you are on legal title to does not matter. If you are on title to it, you have an ownership interest in it. If you want to be bought out, then you can make her an offer to be bought out, but presently you do not have to sell.
I suggest that you consult with a family law/real estate attorney about your situation. Good luck.
