Regarding the health insurance:  Normally, his insurance company will not allow him to carry you past the date of the divorce.  You may want to contact his insurance company and send them a copy of your divorce decree.  If you were to use his insurance, the insurance company could come after you for fraud.

Regarding the life insurance policy:  The insurance policy is a community asset if acquired during the marriage (Louisiana).  If you and he have not settled your property issues the insurance policy may be something to bring up.  You may want to contact the insurance company and find out who is the owner and beneficiary.  If you are the owner, you can cancel the policy and change the beneficiary.
