My employer is requiring me to work a designated holiday with time off later.can they? I am non exempt

Question Details: We are a large company who have acquired different companies in different cities. Each have their own holidays. If my employer is requiring us to work a set holiday at our home base and offers time off later is it at straight time or holiday time?

Employment and Labor Law Answers

Neither federal or state law, requires payment for time not worked, such as vacations or holidays. These benefits are generally a matter of agreement between an employer and an employee (or the employee's representative).

As for having to working on the holiday itself, if this violates one of your religious beliefs you may have a claim; otherwise probably not.
