If my dog bit a door-to-door salesman, can he sue me?
Question Details: If so, am I automatically at fault and will my dog be put down? He did not break the skin but bruised his leg. He is asking that I pay him his lost wages for the 2 days that he was off work due to his leg hurting. If I refuse, can he sue me and if so are my dog and I in danger of serious repercussions?
You did not give any facts as to how this incident happened, but generally, you are responsible for any damage your dog has caused. Usually this is in the form of medical bills. In a formal lawsuit, you can also be held responsible for lost wages. Hopefully your dog is current on all of his or her vaccinations. Unless your dog has a history of violence and attacks on other people, your dog will not be put down. However, your dog can be placed in quarantine for a period of time to make sure your dog does not have any diseases. I would do my best to reach a settlement with the salesman and see if you can get the matter resolved.
