How to prevent children from having to visit their father?
Question Details:
My 3 children 12, 8, 9 do not want to visit their father anymore because he and his live in girlfriend fight. They have found **** paraphernalia and found my 12 year old found a meth lab in a box. The last time my youngest was there, she witnessed a physical fight with her father throwing his girlfriend around. The police showed up and did nothing and said that kids being exposed to fighting was not child abuse. They didn't arrest him; nothing was done. I tried to file an emergency petition but was told only a lawyer could and I can't afford one. How can I prevent them from going back?
Here is a link to the Tennessee Bar Association with information about finding free/low cost legal help: http://www.tba.org/LawBytes/T1_1002.html. Legal Aid, for example, provides free legal services if you qualify. They also offer low cost services. There are other listings on this website.
Besides filing an emergency petition, you may have other options such as modifying the visitation agreement to require supervised visitation or, based on the testimony of your children and any proof you have about the situation, limiting or getting rid of visitation rights for the father until he changes his behavior and lifestyle.

Are you a lawyer?
