I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law. File a claim with the at fault driver's insurance company. this information is on the police report. the insurance company will call you to look at your car and will give you an estimate as to the amount it will pay to fix your car. if you can then find someone to fix it for less, you can ask the insurance company for the check and you can keep the difference.
