What can I do if my employer told unemployment that I quit but I was laid off?

Question Details:

My bosses came to me and told me my office was being closed down and that none of the other locations had a position in management for me. I was told I was terminated. I was also told that my co-worker would be offered a position in the main location and if she didn't take it it would be offered to me but I would take a pay cut and be demoted. I have been with the company 10 years; my co-worker for 1 year. I applied and got unemployment but the employers said I quit my job and it was stopped. I need help.

Employment and Labor Law Answers

You need to appeal the termination of your unemployment.  Immediately go to the nearest unemployment office and file an appeal.  If you can afford it, hire an attorney to help with it--but in any case, you did not quit, and should have no trouble reclaiming your unemployment payments.  They should not have been stopped in the first place.
