If my 19 year old son wants to train high school students to learn how to pitch, does he need liability insurance if they get hurt while with him?
Question Details:
He was a pitcher in high school and thinks he can assist these boys. Some parents have contacted him and want his services but I am not confident that he is familiar enough with teaching them nor that they won't train incorrectly and get hurt and try to sue us. Does he need certain training, registration, etc.? It's a short term thing.
Whether this is a service that is heavily regulated by statute will depend on your state. It is likely that liability insurance is not required, however, it would be recommended. To ensure that he minimizes his risk, he will also want to consider creating a business entity under which he operates this service. This can help protect personal assets from debts and judgments against his business. There may also be local business/tax licenses that are required before accepting payment for such service.
