What are my daughter's rights if she is being harassed by her ex-boyfriend?

Question Details:

I need to know how to put a stop to the slander and harassment against my 17-year-old daughter. Her ex has made it difficult at her school and work. She is afraid, angry and depressed. I fear for her safety. Some of the slander has involved false allegations about her and relations with married people, and their spouses believe them. I need to know now what to do? I am not well and have not much money.  My daughter is an excellent student and already accepted to college - 4.0 GPA; H.O.S.A; F.C.C.L.A; honor society; and more.

Without quite understanding what this guy is saying about your daughter which is untrue, (slander is verbal defamation; libel is written defamation), you should consider sitting down with your daughter and writing down everything and then going to see an attorney.

The attorney can help file a temporary restraining order against the ex, which could turn into a permanent one.  The restraining order should then be given to and filed with the local police.  Further, the temporary restraining order will help set the stage for any civil action she wishes to take based on any damage to her reputation, etc.
