Question: Auto Accidents - Connecticut

Asked on 9/7/2009
motor vehicle insurance card
I was charged with having an improper insurance card- date was expired, policy was valid, and up to date. The fine was $97. How can I dispute this?

I am not admitted in Connecticut.  Please "not guilty" and ask for a hearing.  Then bring down your up to date card on the day of the hearing and show it to the Judge.  I am not sure that the ticket will be dismissed but you may get the fine reduced.  You have an obligation to carry the updated registration and insurance information with you when driving.

You can sometimes do this through the mail.  Check with your local DMV (maybe online?).

I am admitted in CT.  The last answer was correct.  Plead "not guilty" and when you get your court date, see the prosecutor and show them the correct card and they usually drop the charges.
