Mother died of possibly a curable illness but was a member of a cult who did not believe in doctors is there a possible lawsuit against the group?

Question Details: My mother joined a religious sex cult when she was very young and believed everything they taught. The group never outright said not to visit a doctor on a regular basis, but very strongly implied that doing so would go against the groups beliefs. In February 2005 my mother passed away of cervical cancer. When she was diagnosed she was already at stage 4, so there was really nothing she could do. Until this point she had not seen an OBGYN for years and had never visited one regularly because of this group. I feel if she'd, had regular check ups every year she would be alive today.

Wrongful Death - Accidental Death Law Answers

I am sorry for your loss. However although it seems she may have been influenced I do not know if it can be said she was not making her own choice. This is a very delicate area of law because the line between undue influence and free will gets cloudy. I strongly urge you to consult a local attorney. In person you can review all the facts and once everything is out it will be easier to determine if there is a possible cause of action. Good luck and thank you for coming to our site.
