Liability for deceased spouse's debts

Question Details:

Mom died. Dad still alive. Lots of medical bills. They jointed owed $60,000 house. Have title. Can he be forced to sell home to pay of medical debt?

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  If the medical provider obtains a judgment against your mom's estate, which they will, the house may be not be liened becasue the house passed to your dad upon her death.  any money in the estate however, may be taken to satisfy the debt.
