Question Details: My fiancee has gone to collections for past medical bills. I was wondering if we get married could they come after me for the debt also? This is in the state of Colorado.
If your husband is the sole name on the debt than whether or not your married they cannot make you a party to the action for recovery. however you will be faced with potential problems with regard to joint accounts or assets held together such as a home. Although your assets cannot be sought after you will need to keep very good records in order to protect yourself if there becomes any issue with showing a clear chain of ownership. Good luck and let us know if you need further assistance

Are you a lawyer?
