Is there anything I can do if I lost my job because of misinformation?

Question Details: I've been working for a company for 2+ years and recently had to move to another state in order to attend school. A month prior to moving, I had requested a transfer to another store for the same position, which at the time, the position was open. I let my manager know all the details that were needed and he said he would do what he could. A week prior to the move, I still hadn't heard anything from neither the store I was at or the the store I wanted to go to. I called Human Resources and they informed me that they had no information about the transfer. I lost the position and a job.

Employment and Labor Law Answers

I know that this seems harsh but it is probably legal.

Most employment relationships are what is known as "at will".  This means that basically the employer can hire or fire someone for any reason or no reason whatsoever, as well has increase/decrease salary/hours, promote/demote, and generally impose requirements as they see fit.  In turn, you can work for an employer, or not, your choice.

The only exceptions to the above would be if there is a stated company policy covering this, or there is a union/employment agreement that governs, or this situation has arisen due to some type of discrimination.
