Is there any way that I can avoid grandparents rights?

Question Details:

My mother-in-law says she is going try and take my daughter away. She's in Ohio; we're in Florida now. My husband and I don't want her around. She is talking to a lawyer about grandparents' rights and we think if she sees her, she might take off with her. We're staying together, we're not getting a divorce.

In the state of Florida Grandparents do not have any rights unless the Department of Children and Families are involved.

In Florida, grandparents have no rights (other than those that the parents choose to give to them), unless both parents are somehow unfit to raise the child and make decisions on the child's behalf. Then a grandparent might be able to file for guardianship of the child. But if you have no legal history, are stable, no department involvement for the child, no history of drug abuse, etc., then you most likely have very little to worry about, and if you choose to not have her around your child, that is your choice.
