By law in some cases there is known what is called a "3 day right of recission". Pursuant to it, a consumer may cancel a contract within 72 hours of entering into it. However, its scope is limited. Typically it only applies to door-to-door sales, mortgages, timeshare sales and certain other transactions. A purchase such as you describe may or may not be covered.
