Whether or not the landlord is responsible for maintaining the stove would depend on your lease.  In a month to month tenancy without a lease generally maintaining the stove would be the tenants responsibility.  I am a New York landlord/tenant and criminal defense attorney.  Give me a call if you would like to discuss the situation.  It would be my pleasure to speak with you about the case.   Darren M.
