Is my husband liable for any debt that is solely in my name (either before or after marriage)?

Your husband has absolutely no liability for your pre-marital debts.  The only debts that can be held against the debtor's spouse are those that are incurred for family necessities described in Utah Code section 30-2-9.  Your husband's property and income cannot be reached by your creditors, either.  So it does make sense to avoid owning anything jointly, if you do have a lot of debt.
