Is it legal for my stepmother to give her attorney my social security number without my permission regarding my father's succession?
Question Details: She asked for permission to use it in her Will for her to split up his retirement between all of his and her kids if she passes away. I precisely remember what she asked and she was very secretive about opening the succession. This was a little over a year ago, if this is illegal can I still press charges given the time that has already passed. Nothing has been signed by me and my sisters and the succession has still not been pushed through to court as far as I'm aware. And if I can do something about it where should I start?
I am not sure of the reason for your question, but it seems to me once you gave your stepmother you SS#, for the purpose setting forth a will provision in her will, then she has the right to give the number to her attorney in the drafting of her will; remember the discussions between your stepmother and her attorney are confidential, therefore rendering the attorney to keep the information confidential. As to the legality, of providing the SS# by your stepmother to her attorney,I don't know and I cannot help you.
