Is it illegal to write down some grocery prices in a supermarket?
Question Details:
I was browsing in an oriental supermarket to compare the prices of some grocery items. An Asian guy walked up to me and said I cannot note the price. So I stopped and walked away but he followed me to have me listen to him that I have to leave the store and if I do writing down he will have me arrested. He treated me like a criminal. Can he treat people like that? Isn't checking grocery prices the consumer's right? What should I do besides not going back there again. I only shopped there a couple times.
As a general rule, the owner of the shop can impose certain rules for shoppers. Yes, a store owner can ban a customer from a store (non discriminatory reasons). If the customer returns, the owner can call the police to remove the trespasser. Because you did not note the state you were in at the time of the incident, all I can do is write in general terms. Your state may provide you with greater protections than I noted above.
