Is a contract that I sign still legal if I can not find any information on the company?

Question Details: I was offered a personal loan through a company that asked for me to sign a contract and place a down payment before the money can be deposited to me. I am unable to find any information through the internet or Better Business Bureau but was given a valid company website and phone number.

If you can't find an actual address for this company anywhere, I would give serious thought to walking away from this deal without making the down payment.  The way you've set up the deal, and from the sense of it, I'd be very surprised if you're liable for anything until you do that.

And I have a nasty feeling that this might well be a scam, because personal loans don't usually require an up-front "down payment."  A down payment that just disappears won't do you any good at all.
