Involved in a car accident that I think is fraud

Question Details:

I was in a car accident awhile back; I hit someone in traffic going about 5pmh. He of course filed a bodily injury claim now after months have passed; he is claiming thousands of dollars in medical bills. I think that it's a scam but my insurance company is offering very low settlements now for him. I just don't know if I should get advice or let them give him money. In the end will it affect my record and will my rates go up?

The fact that a claim was filed against you will affect your rates. However, if the insurance company has accepted the claim, there is little you can do to dispute it. You could try reporting it to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) at https://www.nicb.org/cps/rde/xchg/nicb/hs.xsl/index.htm; this is an industry association that looks into insurance fraud, including auto insurance fraud.
