How do I know that I will receive my check if the insurance company is wants me to sign a release first?

Question Details:

A tree was cut on my house. The tree cutters insurance company wants me to sign a release and after my signing, they say that they will send me a check.  How do I know I will receive the check from them?

While there is always a chance that they can renege and not send you a check, it is unlikely that a reputable company would do this. What you should do is make sure that the release clearly states in writing that you are to receive a check (with the amount) from the company upon signing the release form. Don't sign the release unless it clearly contains in writing that you are to receive the check.
