Can an independent contractor be subject to participate in "unpaid training"?
Question Details: The company is a clothing manufacturer, the work was as a wholesale customer service rep, I completed one week of unpaid training, followed by 3 weeks of full-time employment. a W-9 was filled out 2 weeks after I started, after being terminated for seeking supplemental income I filled out form S-8 because I'm not quit sure I was an independent contractor. They haven't paid me for this time and I never signed a contract or used the words "unpaid training" in correspondence.
Terminating an alleged independent contractor for doing outside the company with your independently contracting is strong evidence that you were misclassified for which you might be entitled to certain damages.
