What do I need to do to transfer a deed to a mobile home and land from a family members name to my name?

Question Details:

The property is currently deeded to my uncle and he has agreed to give me the property, and I have agreed to pay the back taxes. I need to know if I have to pay these taxes in full before the deed can be transferred? Also what steps do I need to take to get the deed transferred? Do I need an attorney to do this?

How wonderful for you!  But I think that the best thing for you to do is to speak with an attorney and financial planner  - or an accountant - to plan this wisely for you.  If you just put it in your name you may be subject to a gift tax inyour state on top of the filing fees it will cost you for the deed.  It may be wiser for you to "purchase" the property for the amount of the taxes, that way you get a tax break and your uncle avoids a lien.  And the deed should always be prepared by a lawyer.  Good luck.
