Question Details: HUSBANDS SON CAUSED A DEATH IN A CAR ACCIDENT, INVOLVING A POLICE OFFICER. THE FAMILY IS SUING THE SON, HIS MOTHER, AND HIS STEPFATHER, SINCE IT WSS THEIR CAR. THEY HAVE VERY LIMITED ASSETS. THE SONE IS ONLY 17.
The state law that is most important here is the state where your husband's son, mother and stepfather live (I'm assuming they don't own land in any other states). Each state varies somewhat, as to what property and income can be reached by a judgment creditor, and what cannot.
The judgment will be good for quite a number of years; even if the creditor can't collect it all right away, they are allowed to keep trying.
