In a contract where the date the agreement was entered into is in the future, is the contract valid?
Question Details: I have a contract with an alarm company that has an automatic renewal clause in it. It renews for 1 year at the same time every year. At the top of the contract it says the agreement was entered into in the year 20000? I signed it; I did not date it the agent did. Is it valid given the error in the date year that the agreement was entered in to?
Minor typographic errors, such as you describe, have no effect on the enforceability of a contract. All that is required is that the intention of the parties be discernable from the contract, which it would be--no one would think that you actually entered into the contract in the year 20000, for example, and the year you first started has no bearing on a one year renewable contract anyway.
