If you have received a retail theft ticket would that be considered a misdeamenor?

In Massachusetts, retail theft falls under 2 crimes, Larceny under $250.00 which is a misdemeanor and larceny over $250.00 which is a felony.  The distinction between felony and misdemeanor depends on the value of the stolen property (whether it is worth more or less than $250.00).
