If two people are getting a divorce and both are residents of one county, can one of the parties file in a separate county?
Question Details:
I'm getting a divorce. My wife filed in different county than that in which we live. Additionally, the papers say she filled a month ago but the envelope was only mailed 2 days ago. I received them yesterday. There's a letter saying I need to have it signed notarize and returned in 2 days. The way she did this, I have no time to get a lawyer to look at it. What can I do with these problems on such a short amount of time?
Each county will have residency requirement to file a divorce there. Generally you have to file where you live. But check with your local court rules.
