if two people are co-owners of a home and one dies oweing credit card dept can the home be taken to pay off dept and they are not married but family?

Question Details: me and my mother are co-owners of a home we both paid on, she owes credit cards and they are threatning to take the home to pay off her dedts while I am trying to keep the house and i am on ssi and ssd. I am the main borrower and she the secondary.
