If on a business trip, are your actions subject to HR rules and regulations, even if it is after usual business hours?

Question Details:

A business trip out of state lasted for a week. Meetings were held during the day, followed by business-sanctioned dinners. One free night was allowed. If a disagreement occurred between employees that night, should it have been a personal matter? One employee went to HR because they felt uncomfortable in the situation--should they have gone to the police instead? Can HR legally put the other person on Administrative Leave while they sort out the situation?

Employees at will may be hired and fired for good bad or no reason at all absent discrimination.  Similarly, the employer may reprimand/punish an employee for any reason.  In other words, the employer is not limited to situations outside the work place.  for instance, if you saw your boss on the street during the weekend, he can fire you on the spot.  In this case, the reason that the employees were together related to work. the argument, while normally would be handled by the police, was ok to be handled by your employer since it got word of the incident and has the right to reprimand you to set an example.  I suggest that you do your time and learn from this.  be careful.
